Post Length Checker
Write once, check everywhere. The checker counts your post the way each platform is known to: X weights links as 23 characters and some symbols double, Bluesky counts visible characters, and Mastodon counts links as 23. Limits are editable because they change.
Runs entirely in your browser. Your input and files are not uploaded to any server.
How to use
- Paste or type your post.
- Review the table: green fits, red is too long.
- Edit a limit if your account has a different one (for example a paid tier).
Examples
A 420-character announcement fits Threads and Mastodon but is 140 over on X.
A long tracking URL counts as 23 on X and Mastodon, but in full on LinkedIn.

Check it yourself: open your browser’s developer tools, select the Network tab and use the tool. Your file never appears in an upload request. Once this page is saved for offline use, you can also disconnect from the internet and keep working. Ads and anonymous visit statistics, when enabled, make their own requests, but they never receive your files or text.
Frequently asked questions
How exactly does X count?
This uses the published twitter-text weighting rules: most Latin, Arabic and other common scripts count 1, other characters (such as CJK and emoji) count 2, and every URL counts 23. Edge cases may differ slightly.
Why can my limit be higher?
Some platforms give longer limits to paid or verified accounts. Change the limit in the table.
